FOR FUNDERS

When we spoke to ESO and fund leaders, one of the main challenges they mentioned was the lack of alignment on the best or most realistic strategies to measure their partnership’s impact.

When we spoke to ESO and fund leaders, one of the main challenges they mentioned was the lack of alignment on the best or most realistic strategies to measure their partnership’s impact.

That is what these principles have set out to solve. We want to bring funders and ESOs onto the same page, so that ultimately entrepreneurs are better supported by improved programs and services.

Showing other ESOs and funders that you endorse the principles will help us, as a sector, align on what best practice can look like. Endorsement means you agree that adopting the principles leads to better impact measurement, and as you fund the essential services ESOs provide, this can be a catalyst to encourage and promote adoption of the principles on the ground.

Opportunities for Funding Partners

There are several opportunities for ESO funding partners to get involved in, and help to increase the impact of, these Principles:

Endorse or Adopt the Principles

If some or all of these Principles align with your organisational values, consider formally ‘adopting’ them internally and with your partners. For example, aligning with the Principle to ‘Invest in Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning’ may mean encouraging your ESO partners to include MEL costs in their funding proposals and budgets. “Endorsing” the Principles may mean sharing them publicly and promoting them through your work.

Sponsor a Working Group, Project or Event

The Community of Practice includes a Steering Committee and Working Groups which focus on regularly reviewing the Principles, building a community of practitioners to share and learn through events and research, and Working Groups which are collaborative, multi-partner projects focused on developing projects that contribute to the Principles and to the ongoing learning and development within our sector.

Start your own Working Group

If you have a project, research, or event idea that is related to diving deeper into the Principles, consider starting a Working Group, or working with our Steering Committee to develop a Call for Proposals for a specific concept you’d like to see a Working Group focus on.
